Decorating With Wrought Iron (Part V) The Bathroom

by Bath Towel on January 23, 2010

Yes, even bathrooms need to be decorated now. After all, this is the room that you frequent in the morning and other times in the day to do your daily routines such as bathing, washing your face, brushing your teeth and so on.

However, unknown to some, the bathroom may be one of the trickiest rooms to decorate. This is because you have to be very careful with the accessories and fixtures that you choose to bring in. For one, it should be durable enough to withstand the constant humidity in the place and you cannot also put in a lot of free standing accessories because most of the bathroom spaces in modern homes is actually quite limited. So as a resort, you can use the walls for further beautification needed.

Here are some useful tips in decorating the bathroom wall.

1. Work with what you have.
The easiest way with to decorate the bathroom is by working to enhance the theme that you already existing. You do not really have to change the tiles and the wall treatment if they still look good. In addition, keeping the old tiles will not only save you time but tons of money as well.

Here is one thing that you need to accomplish first before attempting to do anything in your bathroom: clean. Remember no one wants to work with rusty faucets, stained porcelain tiles and blackened grout right? Do not worry because cleaning them is not really that hard. In fact you can now buy several solutions that work on a spray, let rest and wipe basis.
2. Get the proper tools to do the job.

Since you are more likely to work on tiles, you have to invest in a good and trustworthy drill that can give you some holes without breaking anything. If you need to hang decors on the wall, make sure that you have a sturdy ladder that would not slip on a wet floor.

3. Choose accessories carefully.
As mentioned above, you cannot really have too much free – standing accessories lying around. This is mainly because free – standing items do not only take up too much space but they can also be potential hazards especially if you or anyone in your family slips with wet feet.

So in place of all those free standing accessories, you can always get wall decors that are both functional and beautiful to look at. Here are some of the examples:

a. Mirrors framed with wrought iron

b. Decorative towel bars

c. Metal wall panels with hooks to hang your bathrobes and dry towels while bathing

d. And of course, candle wall sconces that you can use with your aromatherapy candles while you are having a warm bath.

Again, the key to giving these accessories a long life is by checking, maintaining and cleaning them more often than usual. In a way, this will ensure that your beautiful metal wall art, mirrors and any other accessories rust free.

With that, you are finally done. Give yourself a pat on the back and by all means enjoy those decorating projects that you have done so far.

Decorating a Bathroom

by Bath Towel on January 13, 2010

Does your bathroom need a change in decor? Maybe just a few decorating additions or storage solutions?

Choosing the decor for your bathroom will depend on it’s purpose. Is it a master bathroom, a child’s bathroom, or a guest bathroom? Maybe just a main bathroom in the house that everyone uses? Whatever it’s purpose, there are many ideas to decorating your bathroom that can add style, function, and storage.

For a bathroom that is you own personal bathroom, such as a master bath, you might consider creating a relaxing atmosphere. Try using relaxing colors such as neutral tones, soft shades of purple or blue, or even rich shades of red and brown. Most people prefer to use colors that coordinate with the color scheme of their bedroom if it is a master bath.

Next, add items that will help you relax, whether you are getting ready for your day, or relaxing in a nice hot bath at the end of your day. Try having a radio/CD player to listen to music to get your day going or unwind before going to bed. Candles are also nice if you want to have the soft light and pleasant scents while you are relaxing in the tub. Also, try using baskets or glass jars to place on the sink or on the shelf, to neatly store items which are used often. Make-up, cotton balls, and wash cloths, should be stored neatly with easy access. Having these items clutter your bathroom will not make your space a relaxing one.

If you are decorating a bathroom for children, you will want brighter colors. If it is a uni-sex bathroom, I prefer soft green colors to coordinate with both pinks and blues. There are so many themes to choose from, especially animal themes. Rubber ducks, garden animals, jungle animals, sea animals, or even bugs are very popular bathroom themes for children. Most have matching towels, rugs, shower curtains, and soap dishes.

There are a few things that you can add in a child’s bathroom for convenience, safety, and to eliminate clutter. Try securing towel hooks low enough on the wall so that they are easy for children to reach. Decorative bath rugs or bath tub mats will add color to their bathroom, and will help prevents falls. And, for easy clean up for bath toys or soaps and shampoos, try using storage buckets with suction cups to stick inside the tub or on the wall. Children also like having a step stool to stand high enough to use the bathroom sink. You can even paint designs on it yourself to coordinate with the theme.

For a guest bathroom, there is one thing to try and keep in mind…storage! Your guests will want a place to easily store their bathroom belongings during their stay in your home. Adding a small wall mounted cabinet, shelves, or baskets will give them more storing space. You can place extra bars of soap and extra hand towels and wash cloths on the shelves or in the baskets for their convenience. Also, you will want a place to neatly store plenty of towels. Try using a large basket that will hold towels neatly rolled inside, and extra towel hooks for them to hang after using. You can find bars with multiple towel hooks that hang right over your door!

Whatever the purpose of your bathroom, using these simple ideas will have you, your children, or your guests, enjoying the bathroom! These ideas will provide style and function in a room that we use for so many reasons, several times a day. Why should it be a boring space any longer?

When it comes to decorating for Christmas, there are many individuals who place a focus on one room and one room only. That room is likely the room in which their Christmas tree is in. While it is important to decorate your Christmas tree and the room that it is in, you should also think about decorating the rest of your home. In a small amount of time, you can easily show your appreciation for Christmas, in each and every room of your home.

Since, the room in which your Christmas tree is in was already touched on, it is best to focus on other rooms, besides your living room, family room, or den. Perhaps, it is best to focus on the bathroom. After all, it is one of the most used rooms in any home. If you are interested in decorating your bathroom for Christmas, you can often do so with a few small, yet affordable Christmas decorations. You can hang a Christmas picture in your bathroom or replace some of your bath towels with Christmas bath towels. If you want to, you could even replace your bathmat or shower curtain with one that has a Christmas theme.

The kitchen is another room that you could easily decorate for the Christmas holiday season. With the kitchen, like the bathroom, there are a number of low-cost ways that you can go about getting your decorating done. For instance, did you know that you can purchase Christmas themed potholders, over mitts, and kitchen towels for only a couple of dollars each? If money is not an issue, you may want to think about adding some Christmas themed kitchenware into the mix. For a little bit more money, but still a relatively affordable price, you should be able to find matching sets of bowls, plates, and cups that come with pre-designed Christmas themes.

You may also want to decorate the bedrooms in your home, especially if you have children. One Christmas decorating idea that all children love is Christmas lights. In fact, there are some children who decorate their rooms with Christmas lights all year long. Simply by hanging Christmas lights along the perimeter of your child’s room, you could easily help to create a Christmas-like feel in their room. If your child would prefer not to have Christmas lights in the bedroom, you could easily hang a small Christmas picture in their room. This picture can be a nice framed one or it can be one of the Christmas cardboard cutouts that you can purchase in a package at most dollar stores.

In addition to decorating the rooms inside your home, you may also want to think about decorating the outside of your home as well. If you are looking for a simply way to showoff your Christmas spirit, you could easily run Christmas lights along the outside of your home. There are special Christmas lights that are developed just for this purpose. If you would like to do more, you could also decorate your lawn for Christmas. A few Christmas yard signs may be nice; however, you can go even larger than that. There are a number of retail stores that sell large inflatable Christmas trees, reindeer, or Santas. No matter how much or how little decorating you do outside of your home, it may be a good idea to showcase your love for Christmas to your entire neighborhood.

The above mentioned Christmas decorating tips are just that, tips. If you want to decorate your whole home for Christmas, go right ahead; you will likely be pleased with your decision to do so. However, you don’t have to. For some individuals a simple Christmas tree is all the Christmas spirit that they need have.

Decorating Bathrooms

by Bath Towel on December 6, 2009

Decoration must take a back seat to design when it comes to the bathroom – one of the most important rooms in the house, and the most dangerous room to navigate for the elderly or mobility impaired.

There are three elements in a Western full bathroom that will always be there – the sink, the bathtub and the toilet.

I specify that you’ll find these in Western bathrooms because Eastern bathrooms are designed differently. The Japanese, for example, would never place the toilet in the same room with the bath. They also don’t bathe in the bath itself. The bath is used for relaxation at the end of a long day – one showers off any dirt and grime before climbing into the nice hot bath for a long soak. The Japanese also don’t waste money keeping their household water hot at all times, on the off-chance it’s needed. Rather, they heat their water on-demand, possessing all kinds of technological marvels that heat the water quite quickly, and to precisely the desired technology.

But let’s get back to the Western bathroom.

As the smallest room in the house, the bathroom has to have both form and function. The easiest way to decorate the bathroom attractively is to have matching bath towels and washcloths. If the walls are painted the same shade as the towels, that’s an added bonus.

Most accidents in the home take place in the bathroom, as the tub and the floor can become quite slippery on occasion. Prevention is better than cure, as the old cliche has it, so make sure you have some non-slip strips in the bathtub – and make sure you purchase the highest quality that are easy to clean and don’t get stained.

Non-skid rugs in front of the tub should also be considered – if they are in the same shade as the towels, the washcloths and the walls, then you’re really in business!

Bathrooms for the Elderly or Mobility Impaired
As we grow older, we find that we can’t move as easily as we used to. This time comes to everyone, unfortunately. Fortunately, there are plenty of products on the market to help make it easier for the elderly or mobility-impaired individual.

Angled grab bars make it easier for people to get into and out of the tub. It’s also possible to get safety rails attached to the tub. If the individual simply can’t get into – or out of – the tub, there are shower chairs so that they can sit and take a shower with no problems. Long-handled brushes and other implements make bathing easier.

Depending on the need, it’s possible to get toilet seats raised from two inches to five inches, to make it easier for individuals to stand up.

Indeed, in today’s technological world, there is a tool to fill every need – as long as you know it exists.

Decorating Styles For The Bathroom

by Bath Towel on December 4, 2009

Decorating the bathroom is important and it can actually add value onto your home. Nobody wants a hideous bathroom so keep things simple and modern and you will be ok.

The bathroom is often overlooked when people decide to decorate, but in fact it is actually one of the most important rooms within the home. It is the bathroom and the kitchen that need to be designed properly if you want to add value onto your home. So, how exactly should you decorate your bathroom then?

Getting It Right

Many people like to decorate the bathroom with flowery patterns and some people are quite happy moving into an old fashioned bathroom and keeping it the way that it is. Whilst this may be ok for you, it isn’t exactly modern. If you want to decorate with a modern style in mind then you may want to keep things simple and keep the color scheme mainly white as these days less if always more!

Tiles are always a good idea but again it is important to keep them plain looking. Small floral patterns are ok, just as long as they look fairly recent and they do not look like something from the past!

If you are struggling for ideas as to what you can do to improve your bathroom, then buying a home magazine is a good idea. In it you will find pictures of decorated homes including the bathroom and it will even give step by step instructions on to how to create certain features. Local flea markets might even sell ornaments or pictures which you can use to brighten up the bathroom – there are not always just old things there!

If you are a homeowner and you have the power to change whatever you want then a whole new bathroom suite may be called for. A new sink and bath will really help to brighten up the room, as well as a medicine cabinet and a towel rack. Of course it all depends upon the space that you have as to what you can actually put there! So always take the appropriate measurements before buying any furniture for the room, that way you will save both time and money!

Overall looking at other bathrooms will help to give you inspiration for your own and that will help you to build your own ideas too. Another good way to get inspiration is to go along to your local DIY stores which usually also show bathroom as well as kitchen and bedroom display. Home improvement shows may also be of interest.
